Like blinds, a roller shutter garage door retracts into a box underneath the ceiling, which makes them a great solution for tiny garages. If you decide to go with a roller shutter door, make sure you plan for a larger garage opening in the overall house design. The box holding the door may be mounted internally or externally, and the same goes for the motor which moves the door up and down, if there is one. The door is made up of equally sized insulated laths, usually made of aluminium, which are resistant to corrosion and long lasting, with optional transparent laths in-between, to allow light into the garage. For security reasons, an automatic roller shutter garage door can be locked with a remote control or an interior switch, regular or coded key, or sensors.
